ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
George Alatopulos, B.A., L.L.B., Graduate Diploma in Taxation (McGill University) is a tax lawyer operating an active and expanding practice in the heart of the financial district of Toronto, with a focus on representing clients in tax matters, and also with a particular emphasis on the administrative as well as criminal dimensions of the Income Tax Act, Excise Tax Act, and the Criminal Code of Canada. George further assists clients with audits, objections and appeals, and enforcement matters, and has acted as a trial and an appellate counsel before the, Ontario Court of Justice, Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Tax Court of Canada, and the Federal Court of Appeal.
David Kerzner, LL.M. (Tax) (NYU), Ph.D. (Law)(Queen’s) is a U.S. tax lawyer. He has been a licensed attorney in New York State since 1993 and a licensed Barrister & Solicitor in Ontario since 1992. His published books on international tax law include The Tax Advisor's Guide to the Canada-U.S. Tax Treaty, a two-volume, 2000 page loose-leaf service of which he is the Principal Co-Author and Editor-In-Chief. David has more than 20 years of experience in designing and implementing cross border tax & legal solutions for businesses and individuals. David advises private clients chiefly in the areas of cross border tax, business, and estates law.
Professor Vern Krishna (CM, QC, FRSC, LLD, FCGA), TaxChambers LLP, is Tax Counsel and Professor of Common Law at the University of Ottawa. Vern is a national expert in the area of tax and is the author of fifteen texts in tax, international tax, and business law and numerous articles and case comments. His work is often cited by the Supreme Court of Canada and he is listed in the Lexpert Directory of Best Lawyers in Canada – both in Tax Law and Estates and Trusts (2006 to present). As one of Canada’s leading legal scholars, Vern has made remarkable contributions to the legal profession. He is a member of the Order of Canada and Queen’s Counsel, a recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal and the Governor General’s 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada Medal, as well as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and the Certified General Accountants of Canada.
David M. Piccolo, B.B.A., J.D., is a partner at TaxChambers LLP. David’s practice is primarily dedicated to all aspects of litigation. David has appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice, Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Tax Court of Canada, Federal Court of Canada, and Federal Court of Appeal on behalf of his individual and corporate clients. David assists his clients during all stages of litigation beginning with the audit, continuing through the Notice of Objection process and, if required, the litigation of the appeal in the relevant court. David also has successfully acquired rectification orders on behalf of his corporate clients.
